The mechanical engineering senior capstone team Efficient Vehicle designed, analyzed, and constructed a single-person, highly fuel-efficient vehicle using a single cylinder, four-cycle engine, while abiding by the safety rules set forth by SAE Supermileage and Shell Eco-Marathon Americas. The capstone team used many off-the-shelf-parts as well as other commercially available components to design and fabricate the vehicle. Many of the materials used to construct the vehicle are commonly used in the aerospace industry due to their high strength to weight ratios. The two highly publicized competitions will showcase the mechanical engineering department at NAU and will help gain national recognition. The vehicle was built with a limited budget provided by SAE@NAU and acquired sponsors including: Dr. M.R. Mitchell, Quintus Inc, M.C. Gill Corporation, Copper State Bolt and Nut, Shur-Lok, Young Engineers, and Shell Oil Company.
