Welcome to the Sonar Imaging Group home page.   This website was created, to keep all its visitors updated on the progress of an exciting new project being conducted between Northern Arizona University and Motorola. This project involves Motorola's newest digital signal processing chip, the DSP56827. This chip is being used as the centerpiece of what will turn out to be a real time sonar imaging system. This sonar system will be used as a demo model to show potential customers the advantages and capabilities of the DSP56827 chip. The system will sweep a predetermined area, by sending out sound waves from a transmitter. After, receiving the report of those waves, the receiver will generate an accurate mapping of that area.

We will be controlling the Digital Signal Processor, sonar, and motor subsystems via a computer. The link between the digital signal processor and the computer will allow for real time updates of gathered information to be rendered through an application on the computer using both graphical and text based forms of media. Throughout this website you will find extensive materials that are available to further clarify the project.  If this is not your first visit to our page you can click to the  What's New section to find the most recent additions to the site.

What's New

The following is a list of recent additions to our web. Whenever we publish a paper, write a specification, submit a status report, or add anything else to our web, we'll put a notice here. Every two weeks we'll remove the oldest items. The most recent changes are listed first, and each item is linked to the page with the updated content.
